This is a question we receive often: Can AWhere map ZIP codes? Or, How can I get my ZIP coded data into AWhere?
ZIP codes are difficult to map due to the fact they change often
and do not represent real areas, but instead routes. However, we
understand there are a lot of data which is only recorded by ZIP code therefore
we offer, through our partnership with Maponics, a basic ZIP code polygon layer
for the United States. You can read about our Maponics product and download some sample
data from our Maponcis Zip Code product page.
The Maponics ZIP code map layer we offer is about 18-24 months
old, but is still the most accurate area map available. Even though ZIP
codes can change every 3 to 4 months, it is more than suitable for more ZIP
code mapping applications. If you need more current ZIP codes, you may
contact www.Maponics.com directly.
Another option, if you only need to map point locations is to
use a geocoding service. Most of them allow mapping ZIP codes only, you
can read about those, in our geocoding help sheet.
Geocoded ZIP codes will be given latitude and longitude values can be
imported into AWhere using the “Import Coordinates” tool. The benefit of
this is the resulting data displays quickly and the points may be more up to
date. The point would either represent the geometric center of the
routes, or the actual post office location.
